Center for Educational Research is established in 1997, integrating previous research institutes in the College of Education, to study in depth subject matter in each field through interdisciplinary research and develop practical education programs.
We hold educational forums and academic conferences every quarter to focus on educational issues and discuss solutions. We also publish 『The SNU Journal of Education Research』 and 『Webzine Educational Research and Practice』 every year.

Social Studies Education Research Institute

Social studies education research institute was established to foster humane and social participatory citizens in our community. This research institute aims to contribute to academic development by studying various fields of social studies education. The specific activities of our research institute include research and educational practice of history education, geography education, ethics education, and social studies education.

Institute of Education for Science Gifted

This institute discovers middle school students who are creative and talented in the field of mathematics and science, and provide them several education programs to inspire science, technology, engineering, and mathematics(STEM) learning experiences by engaging them in a lot of scientific inquiry activities and practices. The purpose of the institute is to make contribution to development of science gifted education by fostering scientifically talented students to national core leaders in the advanced research and development of science and engineering. To do this, the institute tries to design, develop, and implement a variety of special programs for systematic training of gifted students, and to help them to have self-directed problem-solving competency, creative problem-finding competency, creativity-convergence thinking competency and consideration personality for other people.

Lifelong Education Research Center

The Lifelong Education Research Center studies the patterns of participation in lifelong learning, supply patterns of lifelong education programs, recognition of non-formal learning results, and establishment of institutional infrastructure. It leads the training of leaders to promote democratic citizenship education, and contributes to the establishment of a lifelong learning system for universities. It conducts research on the construction and monitoring of the national lifelong education statistics system, and supports the systematic continuing professional education for adults.

Center for Educational Policy Research

CEPR(Center for Educational Policy Research) is in charge of the tasks necessary to implement school education policies, teaching policies, student education, teacher education, and teaching materials development research. CEPR conducts research tasks related to the above topics. Specifically, we develop the contents of research tasks and publish a collection of materials or compile research reports and publish them in a book. In addition, various seminars on content studies and methodologies are held to enhance the competence of members of the College of Education.

Research Center for Overseas Koreans Education

The center is an institute conducting balanced research on both school education and lifelong education for overseas koreans. In order to build an educational environment where homeland and overseas korean society could accomplish a cooperative development, and to help overseas educational institutes to get established as an educational center for following generations in each country, our center makes effort by doing research on curriculum organization, enhancing teachers’ competencies, and career guidance for all of Overseas Korean Schools as well as Korean Education Centre around the world. Since 2018, the center has been commissioned by the Ministry of Education to operate the MoE Center for Overseas Korean Education.
