The Department of Social Studies Education was established in the College of Education for the purpose of fostering competent educators responsible for the development of democratic citizenry that can make informed decisions in various sectors of Korean society. To this end, the curriculum of the department is composed of six disciplinary areas: Theories of Social Studies; Politics/Political Education; Law/Legal Education; Economics/Economic Education; Sociology-Anthropology/Socio-Cultural Education; and Ethics-Philosophy/ Ethics-Philosophy Education. Being exposed to various areas of social studies education, students can acquire broad theoretical perspectives and methodological traditions of social sciences and humanities as well as teaching/learning skills for successful careers in education.
